We’ve been planning on creating some videography content for a while, we’ve finally picked a time and a place that aligns with everyones schedules. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous and sunny! The plan is to be there at the crack of dawn and get some beautiful shots at the Walker Arts Center with the Minneapolis sky line and our children running around in the background near the pond by the Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture while we do our thing. Sounds amazing right?
Now, I’m not sure if you’ve been paying attention to the weather lately but it’s been raining non-stop for like a week and we happened to pick the day after all of this rain. But we are going to stick to the plan and hope that the ground is not a muddy mess. So here we are, Saturday morning, needing to wake up our children from a deep sleep to drag them into almost freezing temps before sun is even up. They are not happy (but bribing with pancakes usually does the trick! ;)) As I’m driving to the location I forget that construction has made travel times longer and my Google maps takes me to the opposite side of the city….so of course I’m late. When we arrive I’m happy that the grass isn’t muddy, but its SO COLD.
Hannah and Susan were already shooting when I got there so I joined in when there was a good musical transition. After dancing for just a couple minutes my toes are numb and full of morning dew and grass clippings. Things got a lil’ slippery. We decide that this session is going to have to be quick because instruments don’t like the cold. We run through 3 songs and had to call it quits because Hannah needs thawed fingers for the harp, Susan’s oboe likes to crack when it’s cold, and I need to feel my feet to dance. So we get our shots, wrangled our wandering children back in and began the shlep of all the equipment back to the cars. In a blink of an eye, it’s over. Even though its was chilly, the sun is out and casting interesting shadows on us so I’m sure we got some really great content even though it was cut short.
We managed to swing this despite the less than ideal conditions. Road detours. Numb fingers and toes. Starving kids. We met a photographer that took some sweet shots. We put on a free show for many passer-byers. Also, some random runner’s started recording us, so if you see us on Instagram, tag us @Mothrmöv! Special thank you to Katherine Majkrzak for your equipment and time to shoot this for us. Also I’m so grateful to our children for putting up with the things that we make them do because they are our number one supports and showing them how to make sacrifices for the right things is a great lesson to be learned.
We are a trio of some strong, determined, mom babes that each bring something so different and valuable to the table. The collaborative spirit and creativity that comes from us is so inspiring. These are moments that fill my cup. I don’t know many people that are as committed as the women are in this ensemble. We continue to grow as humans and as professional artists and we are dreaming up big things to produce. Stay tuned!
Love,
Brittany
P.S.
Susan and I and our kids when to breakfast after this and ran into this spectacular mural. I feel like its very fitting for what we’re doing here. It reads, “Tell me what it is you plan to do with your one wild precious life?”
